Robot Dino

I did this drawing for the weekly sketch theme over on the AM forums. This week's theme was Robot Dino.

Sorry for being so quiet lately. Lisa and I moved to a different town in NJ closer to work and we visited CA for a week for my sister-in-law's wedding. It was a crazy month. But I didn't stop drawing. For October I made a goal to do a simple journal comic every day. I only missed three days and I learned a lot so I think it was a great success. I'll start posting those comics soon.

Mole Man's Monster

I've been super busy with moving and haven't had enough time to draw. Here's something from a couple of weeks ago I did for the CGS forums.

Abby's Flying Fairy School

Check it out.

Astronaut Man

This is the inks to a piece I want to watercolor. Don't ask me what it means. I drew an astronaut in my sketchbook one day waiting for a playblast. Later I decided he need to be dragging something. Several days after that I decided that no drawing is complete without a large flaming skull and a castle in the background. So there you go. I guess it is kind of morbid.

AM Forum Sketch: Monsters Under the Bed

I decided to join in on the fun over at the Animation Mentor sketch forum. This weeks' topic is "Monsters Under the Bed". My inspiration came from Sybrian from Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet.

Comic Test 2

Another test for the up coming comic. I think I could push this a lot more. Now that I look at it it feels identical to my previous version.

For My Nephew and Niece

My nephew, niece and I have been sending art to each other through the mail. Here's my most recent contributions that I'm dropping in the mail today.

Funny and Educational

Comic test

A couple of guys from Speakeasy are putting together a comics anthology. Here's a test I did to figure out the villain of my story. I'm trying to figure out how I want to color it, ink it, and some of the nuances of the drawing style. So there is a lot in here that is up for grabs.

Gandalf

"Gandalf thought of most things, and though he could not do everything, he could do a great deal for friends in a tight corner."

-J.R.R. Tolkien
Chapter 4 The Hobbit

Ryu

I pity anyone my age who didn't play Street Fighter till their thumbs were sore.

Does Whatever A Spider Can

I had fun playing with the proportions of the friendly neighborhood Spiderman.

Magneto

This one was a lot of fun for some reason.

Harry Potter

Harry from his Deathly Hallows days.

This Is Sparta!

King Leonidas from Frank Miller's 300. The movie good but the comic was great. The more I look at this sketch, the less I like it. I'm not sure what it is.

Josh on the Crossfit page

The picture of my brother Josh on the top of Half Dome made the Crossfit main page! Most people probably don't know what this means but I think it's pretty cool. Most of the time you have some pretty hard core athelets that get their picture featured for the day on the Crossfit page. So it's pretty neat to see family up there. Crossfit is the workout program my wife, brothers and I follow. It was at a Crossfit competition where I took those pictures of my cousin collapsed on the floor.

Abby Cadabby

http://www.animationmagazine.net/article/10480

They're finally releasing images of the show I've been working on for the past 10 months. I'm super excited about this. Everyone at Speakeasy is really proud of the what we are doing. It really has been a dream project.

Jogging

Just working out my storytelling muscles. This story was inspired by Lewis Trondeim.

Batman

Mr. Bruce Wayne is angry.

Bill Watterson hands

Bill Watterson is an amazing artist. I love how he draws hands. They are so simple and even gestural but they never feel rushed.

Beast

Dr. Henry McCoy my favor blue haird scientist acrobat.

Colossus

Skin of metal, mountains of muscles, and a cool Russian accent. What isn't there to like about the Colossus?

Wolverine

Now that working on my demo reel isn't so urgent I've taken some time to do some drawing with the only goal of making me smile. I find drawing of any kind really enjoyable and fun. Life drawing, gesture drawing to improve my eye for animation and the occasional commissioned art piece are times I always look forward too. But sometimes I like to escape through my pencil and draw whatever makes me smile.

Wolverine was my favorite Xmen hands down when I was in Junior High and Highschool. I collected his comic religiously from issues in the early 70s, through the loss of his adamantium, and into the Age of Apocalypse. But due to the events that caused him to go feral and a regretable and misguided beliefe that comics were only for kids I stopped collecting. Thankfully I came to my senses although I haven't purchased an issue of Wolverine since. I miss those days.

Zombies!

Sean is at it again.

Brain Farts: Victor

Brain Farts: Stuart

Brain Farts: Quimby

Brain Farts: Iggy

Brain Farts: Gregory

Brain Farts: Herbin

Brain Farts: Coop and Skippy

Brain Farts: Brian

This Brain Fart is not named after me or my Dad. Mike just thought he looked like a Brian.

Slinky

When's the last time you pulled out one of these little beauties to play with? Slinky obstacle course on my desk at work, current course operator in this picture is Mike "the pod 3 Emperor".

Brain Farts: Blithe

Brain Farts: Samuel

I know some people are thinking "huh"?

Part of the reason I draw these guys is an exercise in creativity and design. I try to make each Brain Fart different from the next. Another reason is to have something to decorate the walls of the cubicle with. I don't have anything against the typical toys that decorate your average animators desk. I have those too. But these Brain Farts are something that is uniquely mine and fun. I think it adds to the creative atmosphere more than a toy you can buy at Toys R Us because it is so different and stupid.

Another explanation for the Brain Farts is they are fun to draw!

Brain Farts: Grimbold

Brain Farts

Every day for the last couple of weeks at Speakeasy I've been sketching out one of these little globs and bits of muck with faces on them on a post it note. I then give them to Mike who promptly names them. Here is the first one I drew. More are on there way.

Lack Of Posting

Sorry for the silence people. I've spent the last month or so running around like a crazy man getting my demo reel ready. Now that it is done, I should return to a more regular posting schedule.
